Advisors

All advisors are given appropriate induction and receive training in the delivery of generalist advice, information and form filling. Clients may be directed or referred to specialist agencies if necessary.

Where an advisor is unable to provide the necessary advice or information, or a service is required that is not available within the organization, the advisor will try to assist the client in finding the help they need. Advisors can also liaise with other organisations on behalf of the clients. However, although we can assist in identifying providers of other services and can supply some listed information, we are unable to recommend specific companies or individuals. In endeavouring to constantly improve and develop the service it is sometimes helpful to obtain extra information about the people who use our services.

We therefore welcome any feedback about your satisfaction with the service and may invite your cooperation in collecting additional information. Internal monitoring of the work takes place on a ongoing basis. We welcome any comments you have to make and should you wish to make a complaint a comprehensive leaflet on how to do so is available at the main office. Age Concern Brighton, Hove & Portslade carries adequate professional indemnity insurance. Advisors are not encouraged to receive personal gifts from service users. However, a small donation to Age Concern Brighton, Hove & Portslade is always welcome.

Confidentiality
Any information given by clients is respected according to the organization's confidentiality policy and guidelines. Clients should know that any information that needs to be recorded will only be done so with the consent of the client. This is in order to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. Clients retain ownership of the information given and the right to access it at any (appropriate) time. A confidential area can be made available for private interview if an advisor and/or the client feels it appropriate

Equal Opportunities Age Concern Brighton, Hove and Portslade will not accept any form of discrimination in its work with and for older people. In particular it will ensure that no one connected to the organization will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, disability, ethnic origin, gender, religious belief or sexual orientation.

Advisors are selected according to certain criteria including the ability to be open minded and non judgmental. Equally, Age Concern Brighton, Hove & Portslade expects users of its services to afford similar rights to its staff and volunteers and to respect their working environment.
