ActivitiesAge Concern Activities for the Over 50s in Brighton, Hove and Portslade

We are pleased to offer the following activities, please note, that some of them have to be booked in advance. If you need some extra information or have a comment, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to hear from you!


 
The following classes are currently available:
 


Stretch and Relax
Movement and yoga postures to increase flexibility, strength and balance. Work to your own ability in a non-competitive atmosphere. Breathing practices to energise and relax. Deep, guided relaxation to leave you feeling rested and calm.

Every Wednesday 12.00am - 13.30pm at the Age Concern premises and
Thursdays from 10.30am - 12pm in Alfred Davey Court, Bread Street, (off North Road), Brighton.
From 14th March 2010 both classes will be £3.50 per session.

Gentle yoga-based movements and postures. Breathing and Deep Relaxation. Suitable for any age or fitness level – work at your own pace in a quiet, non-competitive atmosphere

EXTEND
EXTEND is a recognised organization offering exercise in the form of music to movement. It is designed mainly for the over sixties, but is also helpful for the less able of any age.
Classes remains at £2.50 in all venues.

EXTEND teachers have a structured training with a sound background of anatomy, physiology and movement, an understanding of appropriate exercise for specific conditions, and are insured for their classes.

EXTEND exercises:
- Improves physical and mental health
- Increases mobility and independence
- Improves strength, posture, balance & co-ordination
- Enhances the quality of life

Tai Chi
Experience the gentle flowing movements of Tai Chi and treat your whole body to a gentle and relaxing workout. Thursday 11.45am - 12.45pm and Friday 11.00am-12.00pm. Say goodbye to sweating, puffing and panting. Say hello to feeling cool, calm, refreshed and energized.

The Centre is located in a very accessible area of Brighton – Seven Dials.  The Centre has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and is equipped with a range of modern and up-to-date facilities.
Monday – Thursday from 10am to 1pm

Poetry Workshops!
Led by Jonny Fisher the workshops are adapted to individual group abilities for the over 50s.  They are fun, lively and creative, perfect for those with willingness and enthusiasm to learn.
Fridays from 1pm to 2.30pm.

Reflexology Treatment and Head, Neck, Shoulders and Back Massage

LifeLines activities/projects:
LifeLines also has activities for older people living in the Queens Park, Tarner and Craven Vale areas of Brighton. If you would like to volunteer with LifeLines click here to see more.

Read Aloud: Passionate about books? Join a new group at Patching Lodge. If you are over 50 and would like to join a volunteer led read aloud group this could be for you. Dancing: Class for the Over 50’s Thursdays 10-12am at Patching Lodge. Learn dance routine, Mime, stage expression to divine and exciting music. Suits all abilities...especially those who think they can’t dance. Explore a fun way to exercise, make new friends and a chance to perform when you’re ready. Art Classes: Art classes at Patching Lodge. The Teacher is herself retired and keen to help both total beginners and those not very confident about joining a group. We want it to be fun. You will be encouraged to experiment with different media – pencils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, water-colours and pen and ink. Materials will be provided. Numbers are limited.
