Why do we need Transage Action ?
Age Concern wants to encourage older people to play a much larger part in the lives of many children and young people. Changes in our society often leave families bewildered and struggling with difficulties but without the traditional extended family to support them. Older and younger people have never been so segregated. There are few opportunities for contact. This lack of contact allows each generation to see itself as separate rather than part of one larger community
Transage Action Volunteering  
Transage Action is a new kind of volunteering. An opportunity to bring the skills of a lifetime to a generation that could do with help from older friends. Perhaps you have been thinking that:
  • "I would like to develop new interests and friends"
  • "I now have more time available to try a new challenge"
  • "I am interested in contributing to the life experiences of younger people"
Transage: Age Concern can offer you that opportunity to really get involved in an exciting new project - Transage Action - that can fulfil a very real need.
How can I Help?
Once recruited volunteers help in a wide variety of ways, such as helping groups to improve in literacy and numeracy as well as offering skills as sewing, art work, and gardening

Age Concern will ask you as a volunteer to commit yourself for a minimum period of six months, and you will usually work for 2 - 3 hours a week. There will be an opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a child or a young person.
